Texas School Shooting Survivor Recounts Playing Dead

For Miah Cerrillo, a split-second choice may have saved her life in a terrifying tragedy.

The 11-year-old student at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, recalled the morning of May 24, when a 18-year-old gunman opened fire in her classroom.

Miah told CNN that after the gunman had targeted her fourth-grade class—taking the lives of teachers Irma Garcia and Eva Mireles, as well as many of her friends—he moved to an adjoining classroom. While he was next door, Miah said she and a friend managed to grab their teacher’s cellphone to call 911, telling the dispatcher, “Please come … we’re in trouble.”

Fearing he would return, Miah said she took blood from a slain classmate and rubbed it on herself to play dead.

The grade schooler recalled laying on the floor for what felt like hours under the assumption police had not yet responded to the shooting. When Miah was finally rescued, she was taken to a the hospital for treatment of bullet fragment wounds, per CNN.

Alexis Bledel Announces Exit From The Handmaid’s Tale

Alexis Bledel‘s time on The Handmaid’s Tale has come to an end.

The actress, who has played Emily/Ofglen on all four seasons of the Hulu drama, announced she is exiting the show in a statement to E! News.

“After much thought, I felt I had to step away from The Handmaid’s Tale at this time,” Alexis said. “I am forever grateful to [creator] Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the cast and crew for their support.”

Alexis was nominated for an Emmy for each season of the series, winning the Guest Actress in a Drama Series trophy in 2017.

When viewers last saw Emily on the series, an adaptation of the classic Margaret Atwood novel, she and a group of escaped Handmaids murdered Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), who had orchestrated a plea deal that would let him walk in exchange for his becoming a spy in Gilead.

Season five of The Handmaid’s Tale is expected to premiere on Hulu later this year.

Winona Ryder Says New Stranger Things Focuses on Teen Issues

The stars of Stranger Things aren’t so little any more.

Season four of the hit Netflix series may be full of scares, but according to Winona Ryder—who plays Joyce Byers—the show’s characters still remain the heart of the series.

“It has progressively gotten more frightening,” the actress told E! News’ Daily Pop. “But what I love about it is it does keep that sort of personal heart, love, sort of, connection with the kids and the difficulty of being a teenager.”

Noting that adults are quick to write off certain behaviors as kids being kids, Ryder said that teens endure “just as much pain and confusion. It’s like a war for them.”

As a former teen star herself—starring in 80s hits like Beetlejuice, Lucas, and Heathers—Ryder stated that she’s “very protective” of the show’s younger stars.

“I have mixed feelings about kids in the industry,” she said, “but we’ve really scored with these kids.”

TalkTV, owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News UK, has declined to comment on viewing figures, but Piers has fiercely defended himself, claiming TV ratings are “irrelevant” compared to online reach.

It is not yet known precisely when Piers will be taking his extended break.

‘Vile, disgusting’ texts show ‘the real Johnny Depp’, claims lawyer in closing argument | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Mr Rottenborn returned to the argument of Ms Heard’s first amendment right under the US Constitution to freedom of speech.

He said the 2018 opinion piece she wrote for The Washington Post did not have a “designed and intended” defamatory meaning.

She claimed in the article to have become a “figure representing domestic abuse”, and to have “faced our culture’s wrath” because of it, and while she didn’t name Johnny, he has sued her for defamation.

“There is no hidden meaning here, this isn’t a hit piece on Johnny Depp,” said Mr Rottenborn.
